Most people visiting the Canadian Rockies default to Banff.

But if you’ve spent any real time in the mountains, you know that the best places are usually the ones that haven’t been blown up yet.

The Blaeberry Valley near Golden, BC, quiet, expansive, and surrounded by untouched wilderness.

That’s what makes Golden, BC different.

It’s still a real mountain town, rooted in skiing, climbing, and outdoor culture, and filled with genuinely friendly locals everywhere you go. It hasn’t been overbuilt or overly polished, and that’s exactly why people end up loving it.

At The Blaeberry Base, that’s what we wanted to preserve. We didn’t just build places to stay, we tried to create something that reflects how we believe Golden should be experienced.

Golden, BC sits in a very unique geographical position. We’re pinned between the Rockies, the Purcells and the Selkirk mountains. You can head east toward Yoho National Park and Banff, or west toward Glacier National Park, and you’re surrounded by world class terrain in every direction. Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is about half an hour away, and offers some of the best skiing in North America.

But the biggest difference here is what you don’t get. You don’t get the same level of congestion, or the feeling that everything has been built for tourism first and experience second.

Most accommodations are designed for efficiency. You check in, you sleep, you leave.

Though there are many cabins and lodges around the area, we wanted to build something that felt a bit more intentional than that, something that hadn’t really been done in this way.

We spent a lot of time thinking about what our perfect day in Golden, BC actually looks like. Slow mornings outside with a coffee. Long days in the mountains. Coming back to a fire, or a quiet place to reset. That’s what shaped the way the property is laid out, the amenities we offer, and the design of each unit.

It’s the kind of place where your stay becomes a core part of the trip, not just where you sleep.

Just 10 minutes from Golden, BC, the Blaeberry Valley is where things start to feel different. It’s quieter, more rugged, and a bit more removed from everything.

The river is about a 10 minute walk away, and there are a few spots nearby that people always end up checking out, like the whimsical hike down into the Blaeberry Valley to Thompson falls, or our neighbour Leo’s Buffalo Ranch a few minutes down. The Golden Skybridge is also close by, and tends to be a highlight for most people. (But we like the free stuff)!

Historically, our valley was part of the original route pioneered by David Thompson in the early 19th century, looking for a path to the Pacific Ocean while establishing a new trade route through western Canada. The Canadian National Railway ended up choosing Kicking Horse pass instead to build their railway. The Blaeberry Valley today still carries that same sense of being slightly off the main path.

The Blaeberry Base isn’t laid out like a typical set of rentals. Each unit has its own private space, its own deck, fire pit, and place to hang out, but the property as a whole is connected. Pathways are lit up with string lights, giving it a sort of enchanted forest vibe.

There’s a central courtyard with fruit trees in the summer, a cedar sauna that can be used privately year round, and lots of open green space and a hammock that people naturally end up spending time in. You can keep to yourself, or you can interact with other guests, and both feel natural.

Each stay has its own feel.

Fireløge is the main cabin, built for groups, with a large dining table, a proper kitchen, and a private hot tub. It’s the kind of place where people tend to gather and spend time together. It’s my favorite place in the world to host feasts and ski over the holidays with family.

The Hütte is much simpler, designed for two people, with a private, covered outdoor lounge and cooking area. It’s quieter and more stripped back, cozy.

DripDōme is the newest build, with heated floors and the best views on the property. It’s a bit more elevated in terms of design, with the epoxy espresso bar, but still very much rooted in the environment.

Luxe Serenity Dome, famously known as LSD, is the most intimate option, while still boasting a full kitchen and bathroom. It’s designed to be slow, quiet, and focused on being present.

A lot of the experience happens outside. Every unit has its own fire pit and grill, and the property is set up so that you actually spend time out there.

This spring, we’re adding a hot tub beside DripDōme, which is, at least in my opinion, the best spot on the whole property. I’m pretty excited for people to use that one.

We’re also introducing something new called The Blaeberry Rituals Collection(Coming Summer 2026)

It’s a series of add-ons built with local products, including a Swiss-inspired fondue kit as a nod to the early Swiss influence in Golden, a custom celebration package, and a drinking chocolate ritual. The chocolate itself is locally made by our good friend Sheniz, founder of Noorish Foods. Her products are incredible and we use them all the time. Check them out over at www.noorish.ca The idea was to create something a bit more interactive, something that adds to the experience rather than just sitting on the side.

Most of the people who stay with us are either couples celebrating something, or travelers exploring the Rockies who want something that feels a bit more personal than a hotel or a standard Airbnb.

A lot of our guests end up realizing that their stay here at The Blaeberry Base was one of the highlights of their entire trip. For us that means: mission accomplished.
